NANOLUMENS® ANNOUNCES NEW WORLD HEADQUARTERS EXPANSION IN GWINNETT

Innovative technology leader chooses to stay at home in Metro Atlanta

(GWINNETT- METRO ATLANTA) October 25, 2011 – In partnership with Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development and the Georgia Department of Economic Development, NanoLumens® announced yesterday plans to relocate its world headquarters to a new 32,000 square foot office center in Norcross, Georgia, the same city it has called home since its founding in 2006; creating 175 jobs over the next two years. The new NanoLumens headquarters will be located at 4900 Avalon Ridge Parkway, Norcross, Georgia 30071.

The rapidly growing manufacturer and marketer of flexible and non-flexible digital displays plans to locate administrative, sales, research, design, operations and assembly in new headquarters, in order to better meet the long-term needs of its rapidly growing customer base.

“Georgia’s presence as a technology hub coupled with our global logistics infrastructure provides NanoLumens with a level of access to markets here in the U.S. and around the world that cannot be found in many other places,” said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  “As an innovator in flexible display technologies, Nanolumens is a very important contributor to the technology sector in Georgia. We are glad to see this company expand here in our state.”

NanoLumens President & CEO, Rick Cope, stated that the company will move from its current 14,000 square foot headquarters to its new headquarters on December 1, 2011.  “Our company has more than doubled in size over the last two years and we expect 2012, our first full year of commercial production, to create an even faster rate of growth,” Cope explained.  “This new headquarters will enable us to comfortably grow and meet our customer demands.  It will allow us to consolidate all administrative, sales, operations, research, design, and assembly under one roof right here in the city we have always called home. What’s more, the new headquarters will house the largest digital display showroom in the country.”

“Gwinnett County is proud to continue to be home to NanoLumens, and welcomes the expansion of their worldwide headquarters in Norcross,” said Gwinnett County Chairman Charlotte Nash. “Their innovative technology, designed and assembled entirely in the United States, brings economic enrichment and jobs not only to our community, but to our region and nation.”

The company’s technology has been recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as a 2011 future-proof tech trend and was cited by The Wall Street Journal in its 2010 Technology Innovations Awards. NanoLumens’ technology also received the 2011 Breakthrough Technology of the Year Award at the American Technology Awards.

“For the second time, Gwinnett has been able to retain and expand NanoLumens operations- a huge win for Gwinnett County”, said Nicole Wright, Business Development Manager at Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development. “It’s decision to expand in Gwinnett again confirms that our pro-business environment is nourishing business growth and success- that is our primary goal.”

Since its founding in 2006, NanoLumens has built a portfolio of more than 20 international families of issued and filed patents on its flexible display technology that effectively address the commercial market void between relatively small flat-panel displays and huge, limited application LED boards. NanoLumens technology is not constrained by standard sizes and shapes, or by the size, noise and cost issues associated with commercial LED products.

Treetop Quest Opens at Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center

Adventure park attraction brings education and exercise to Metro Atlanta

(GWINNETT- METRO ATLANTA) September 12, 2011- Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development celebrated on Friday, September 9,  its partnership with Treetop Quest and their expansion to the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center, in a ribbon cutting announcing the community’s first Canopy Adventure Attraction. As one of the most unique, family-friendly adventure courses in Georgia, Treetop Quest is touted as a new genre of educational, adventurous, and environmentally responsible recreation.
“The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center Foundation is very excited about the additional programming opportunities this exhibit brings to the community with its ability to explore nature’s magnificent tree canopy,” said Hank Houser, chairman of the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center Foundation. “This exhibit, funded by Treetop Quest, is a major benefit to the community in that it will create a regional eco-tourism destination, generating economic opportunities and job growth.”

Treetop Quest integrates educational quizzes, instructional tour guides, and environmental stewardship into its unique experience. Categorized by the genre’s newly coined term, “edutainment”, Treetop Quest’s integral differentiator is their strict environmentally sustainable construction codes. Parent company Altiplano, specializing in outdoor recreational parks, brought in an expert design and construction crew from France to construct the series of platforms, zip lines, monkey bridges, and Tarzan swings. Constructed from untreated wood, the courses are built without drilling or puncturing the tree trunks. At heights up to 55 feet above the ground, and zip lines stretching more than 200 feet, Treetop Quest boasts ample adrenaline spikes for the thrill seekers, with specialized preliminary training, ultra security harnesses, and experienced guides to reassure the most apprehensive.

Sharing goals of environmental preservation and stewardship, their partnership with the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center allows excellent exposure for the new exhibit, as well as economic stimulus to the area.

“Treetop Quest’s decision to build and fund a U.S. based adventure/educational exhibit in Gwinnett is due in large part to the demand of its citizens for continued quality of life activities in the community,” said Antoine Buliard, U.S. development manager for Treetop Quest. “Our decision to partner with the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center Foundation on this project is a demonstration of the company’s goal to respect the environment in which the exhibit is built and use the natural surroundings as part of the overall educational experience to be gained through use of the exhibit.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Treetop Quest to our community today,” said Gwinnett County District 1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter. “We look forward to how this unique attraction will bolster tourism in Gwinnett and draw our neighbors from throughout Metro Atlanta to experience firsthand our dedication to sustainability and excellent quality of life.”

“Partnership Gwinnett has a strong focus on enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Gwinnett,” said Nick Masino, Vice President of Economic Development and Partnership Gwinnett at the Gwinnett Chamber. “This exhibit is an investment directly into the community, which is line with our overall effort to further develop a resource and amenity-rich county. We are pleased that they have chosen Gwinnett in which develop this attraction- and we are grateful to Rose Catherin and Matthew McBride of ERIA for introducing Treetop Quest to Gwinnett.  We look forward to watching them grow in Gwinnett and Metro Atlanta.”

Treetop Quest opened officially on September 3, and is available for tours on weekends through November. For more information and ticket reservations, visit www.treetopquest.com. Partnership Gwinnett Summit draws National Economist

Annual community & economic development event reports 3,158 jobs brought to the county in the past year from 91 company expansions

(GWINNETT- METRO ATLANTA) August 26, 2011–Partnership Gwinnett and Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development held their fourth annual Partnership Gwinnett Summit today at Gwinnett Technical College. Presented by T-Mobile, the event showcased success in job growth, business development, education and community revitalization. Themed around the State of Georgia’s Camera Ready initiative; several community, regional and national industry experts gathered at the event to present on a variety of topics impacting local economic development efforts.

In conjunction with the annual summit, two supporting materials also made their debut at the event today: the Partnership Gwinnett initiatives’ Annual Report and the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Gwinnett Market Report. Both focus on job growth, education, quality of life and entrepreneurship- and Gwinnett’s impact in the Metro area and region at large. The 2011 PG Summit showcased Keynote speaker Mark Vitner, Managing Director and Senior Economist at Wells Fargo. A native of Atlanta, Mark Vitner is responsible for tracking U.S. and regional economic trends, and writes for the company’s Monthly Economic Outlook report, the Weekly Economic & Financial Commentary; providing regular updates on the housing markets, commercial real estate, regional economies, and inflation. Mr. Vitner’s commentary is regularly featured on CNBC and MSNBC, and has also been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and many other national publications.

When asked about the future of Gwinnett’s economic development, Mark Vitner said, “While growth will likely remain slow from a historical perspective, we expect the expansion to continue.  Gwinnett County is actually recovering at a slightly faster pace than the overall Atlanta metro area. Businesses are increasingly choosing locations along the I-85 corridor, which offers a great deal of value relative to other submarkets and close proximity to high end neighborhoods and shopping.”

Education, primary school through post-graduate studies, is the cornerstone of Gwinnett’s impressive achievements as a community. “Partnership Gwinnett is building a thriving, global economy in Gwinnett County, thereby supporting educational excellence for every Gwinnett County Public Schools student,” said J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO & Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools, who addressed the summit attendees. “Partnership Gwinnett ensures that the county takes advantage of the opportunities that arise, or creates new ones, to enhance the quality both of the life we enjoy and the education we provide.”

Also speaking at the event was Mac Holladay, CEO of Market Street Services, describing what strategies are implemented in creating the plan for Partnership Gwinnett. Market Street serves as the consulting firm employed by Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development in the formation of the Partnership Gwinnett plan, and is a nationally recognized organization. Mac Holladay worked personally on both the original plan, created in 2007, and the next phase of the economic development initiative- Partnership Gwinnett 2.0, set to be unveiled later this year.

Leaders of that Partnership Gwinnett 2.0 initiative were also present at the summit. Partnership Gwinnett 2.0 Co-Chair, Randy Dellinger, District Manager at Jackson EMC, said, “Despite the economic downturn and nationwide unemployment crisis, Gwinnett County has had the lowest jobless rate in the core Metro Atlanta counties for the past 26 months. This is not by accident- it is through the partnership of dedicated individuals from the public and private sectors working in sync to generate results."

Other notable presenters at the event included Joseph Bankoff, CEO of the Woodruff Art Center, who spoke on the importance of the arts to a thriving community at the business summit.  Christopher Hanks, Professor at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, spoke at the event on the rise of entrepreneurship and small business.

Gwinnett County leadership was also in attendance to show their support of economic development in the community. Gwinnett County District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard said, “This annual summit provides a comprehensive review of the successes of the Gwinnett’s premiere economic development initiative- it is an opportunity for the community as a whole to see and understand the powerful impact that its successful implementation has had on the county: and a primary reason that we can continue to say with confidence that success lives here.”
Together presenting a panel on Building an Award Winning Cast & Getting a “Quick Start” to a Qualified Workforce, Mike Grundmann, Director of Georgia Quick Start, Ann Sechrist, Director of Economic Development at Gwinnett Technical College and Bo Morris, Director of Operations at Yes Video, discussed the importance of a well-developed and fast-paced training program for companies that have newly relocated or expanded their operations to Gwinnett County and Metro Atlanta.

“The Partnership Gwinnett initiative is a true success only because of the 160 public and private partners that dedicate their financial resources, time and energy to ensuring its development and in turn the continued growth of the economy, both in our community and in the region,” said Nick Masino, Vice-President of Economic Development and Partnership Gwinnett at the Gwinnett Chamber. “Their support and collaborative dedication has brought more than 280 companies and 12,000 jobs to Gwinnett since the inception of the initiative in 2007- a number that grows every day and will continue to flourish with their support.”
